IMPORTANT NEWS

We have several areas of focus this year:

         - continue monitoring new initiatives
         - new superintendent search
         - new parents' group
         - change some by-laws, annual meeting later in month
         - begin negotiations research
         - social time: dance at my house

If you are interested in any of these intiatives, let your reps or leaders know -- we want your input!  You can make a difference in your life and the lives of our kids.  You can help a committee, even if you don't serve formally on that committee!

WHAT IS THE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION OF NATICK?

The Education Association of Natick (EAN) is the recognized representative of the majority of employees who work in the Natick Public Schools. For over two decades, the organization has been a major force in the improvement of the working conditions and respect received by the educational employees of Natick. The EAN also seeks to promote activities in the interests of its members, not only to create a deeper sense of dignity, but also to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of education in the Natick community.

The local negotiates with the school committee to formulate a binding contract ensuring that the security, benefits and protections achieved will be enforceable. The EAN also provides help and assistance in the myriad of problems that all members face on a day-to-day basis. Continued membership in the organization not only provides you with a strong link to your colleagues, but also strengthens the solidarity of the organization.

The EAN represents five units in the system: teachers, teacher assistants, nurses, administrators, and Title One teachers. The local has an Executive Board composed of elected officers and representatives. The Board meets once a month to discuss issues and concerns of the membership. All members are welcome to attend. In addition, there are two general membership meetings each year. The EAN has a number of standing committees including Nominations, Professional Rights & Responsibilities (PR & R), Scholarship, State/National Conferences and Retirement.

The local is affiliated at the state and national level with the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) and the National Education Association (NEA). Your membership dues pay for both. These organizations provide a variety of benefits and services, either through EAN or directly to its members.
